What is an addon domain? An addon domain is an additional domain name you can add to your hosting plan. You can create this domain in your control panel.
Your addon domain can be given forwarders, email addresses, and more as you would to a central (primary) domain on your account.
What is a subdomain? A subdomain is a prefix added to a domain name to separate a section of your website. Subdomains function as separate websites from their domains. You don’t need to use subdomains on your website. However, they are helpful if you want to separate different parts of your site, such as your blog and online store.
You can use subdomains to create blogs or e-commerce stores with different WordPress themes. For instance, example.com is the blog, while “blog.example.com” and store.example.com are for specific themes on different subdomains on the blog/store.
If you plan to expand your website, including a blog, forum, or store, adding a subdomain to your domain will be a smart way to separate these functions from your primary website.
You must click on Domains Option to add a subdomain or addon domain to your cPanel.
In this section, you must click “Create A New Domain”.
For Addon Domain: Enter your domain at the top. The location of your document root will be in the last field. Remember that an addon domain name must be registered before users can access it.
For Subdomain: A subdomain is a part of the URL after the domain extension and the main domain name. Subdomains can help if you want to create separate sites or divide your site into several parts. If your main domain is example.com, the Subdomain will be blog.example.com, store.example.com, and sub.example.com. Enter full Subdomain.
Please note that you must uncheck the “Share Document Root” option. If you uncheck the root directory, the domain will create a folder.
- When you create an Addon domain, in the root directory, there will be a folder with the name of the domain name unless you specify another name or path for the folder. A subdomain will be created and attached to the new folder for the primary domain. addon.main-domain.com will be linked to the primary domain name with every addon domain, which can also be used to preview websites.
